Moti agrees to face child sex charge.

FORMER Attorney-General Julian Moti has consented to stand trial on a child sex charge in the Australian court.

The Fijian-born Australian faces a federal sex tourism charge over an incident alleged to have occurred in Vanuatu in 1997.

He was extradited from the Solomons in December 2007, after earlier being arrested and then evading authorities in Papua New Guinea.

Moti’s lawyer says he does not expect the trial to start before the end of the year.
The maximum penalty for the offence is 17 years in jail.
